The Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and the Protection of Personal Information Bill (POPI)
It's your right to know who's got your details and what they're being used for.
Any website or organisation collecting your personal data or information for registration
or communication purposes should:
- Clearly define why they are collecting this information and this should be directly related
to a explicitly defined purpose
- Be collecting the information directly from you with your express consent and not via 3rd parties
- Let you know who will be privy to your personal information (in this case, the
Webmaster and the Representative of the Company for which the website has been created)
- Confirm that your personal information is not distributed for any other purpose
without your express consent
- Have a plan to ensure that databases of personal information are kept accurate, up-to-date and complete
- Allow you to access your personal information at any time to update or delete it
- Have technical and organisational measures in place to protect your personal information against the risk of loss,
damage, destruction or unauthorised access
